Pre-Purchase Exams

Looking to add a new horse to your family? Deepwood’s veterinarians can perform a full pre-purchase examination to ensure your new purchase is ideal for your situation. A typical pre-purchase exam includes:

1. General evaluation of conformation and demeanor
2. Wellness Exam

Heart and lung checkhorse and dog
Ophthalmic Exam
Check for signs of prior injury
Check skin
Dental Exam

3. Lameness Exam

Walk/Trot in hand
Flexion tests
Working on the lunge and/or under saddle
Heart and lung check after exercise

4. Neurologic exam

Depending on the results of the initial exam and intended use of the horse these
other tests are available with our pre-purchase examinations:

Wellness Blood Panel
X-Rays (digital)
Tendon Ultrasound
Endoscopy (upper airway)
Reproductive Evaluation

Rectal palpation
Ultrasound
Uterine Biopsy
Uterine Culture

Drug Testing (we will hold sample six weeks post-examination)
EPM Titer
Lyme Titer
